Ice and Snow
Shooting in snow, ice and avalanches in the Swiss Alps.
The beautiful landscape presented a host of challenges. With temperatures running down to -10, operating became tricky and battery life markedly reduced.
Neoprene covers on the batteries and exothermic Hand Warmer sachets worked incredibly well to keep the electronics going.
When the sun was out there was a wealth of colour, texture and shape to the landscape.
But when the sun went in and thick snow clouds rolled out, any sense of contrast on the snow diminished. The mountains became flat blanket of dull white to the eye. Adjusting the image curve in CineX brought back a surprising amount of shape and texture to the rushes... a real test of shooting Raw, 16bit colour and 4K resolution. The camera was able to see infinitely more than the eye could.
Red Epic, 4K, 120fps, Canon 150-600mm. T5.6.
