City of Light

Shooting a white-collar-crime drama piece in LA.

We looked for the landscape and light that would define the characters and their actions within it. The distinctively affluent glass and steel monoliths of the LA skyline.

In this film, as in many, the geography was to play a silent character. The environment in which the action is staged needed to be as photographically compelling as the action itself.

By day we opted for polarised 18mm wides and 180mm compressed frames.

By night we used a fast 35mm and 85mm (1.4)... And long exposures on the wider glass.
