Shooting against two sets made entirely of 8ft daylight Kino tubes, these gelled to heavy handed taste.
Any foreground lighting was then a mix of ambient spill, gelled Kino fixtures and some occasional gelled Litepanels for accents.
Despite the heavy gelling it was surprising how bright the set got. Using ND9 just to get the stop down to a 22fps base rate (Red Epic at 640 ISO) with the Ultra Primes wide open at T1.9.
The primes handled the veiling glare (or rather the lack of it) beautifully, the flare never bleeding into the blacks too far. Still my favourite lenses for controlled flare. Some more experimental glass did not fare as well (Lensbaby, Pelleng 8mm fisheye) but yielded extraordinary flare doughnuts and rainbows.
A joy to eliminate all white light from the palate… pinks and silver-blues for skin and heavier saturation for everything else.
The most fun I have had with light in ages.
